Cabinet Rejig Buzz After Ajit’s Finance Minister Remark | Pune News – Times of India

PUNE: Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on Monday set speculations abuzz about a possible Cabinet reshuffle with his comments.
Speaking in Baramati, Pawar said, “Today, I have the responsibility of the finance department but I can’t say whether it will be there tomorrow or not.” The deputy chief minister’s comments assume significance as they come days after he skipped a meeting with Union home minister Amit Shah, who was on a visit to Mumbai and met chief minister Eknath Shinde and deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. Pawar had later clarified that he had skipped the meeting due to pre-scheduled events. However, his conspicuous absence had raised eyebrows and questions on the stability of the ruling alliance.
Speaking to reporters in Pune, the deputy chief minister reiterated his stand on the 5% quota for Muslims.
“I, (Hasan) Mushrif and (Abdul) Sattar back the idea of a quota for Muslims. I will speak to the chief minister and deputy chief minister on the issue and try to find a way (to give reservation for Muslims),” he said.
The deputy CM’s comments on the quota are likely to cause friction with the BJP, which has made it clear that it is against granting reservation on the basis of religion. “We have come together for the development of Maharashtra. Issues like this (quota for Muslims) are bound to crop up as we have different ideologies. However, we can discuss them. In the past too, the NDA and the UPA brought parties with different ideologies together and managed to run the government,” Pawar said.
Speaking on the pleas filed by rival camps of the party before the Election Commission of India (ECI), Pawar said he will consider the poll panel’s decision to be final. “Both sides have approached EC and will put forward their sides. I will accept whatever the EC decides,”he said.
‘Protest against GR to fill posts on contract is drama’
Pawar termed the agitation against the government’s decision to fill up some posts on contract basis as a drama. “Some protesters sat on a dharna. It was nothing but a drama,” Pawar said in an apparent reference to Rohit Pawar, who has been at the forefront of the agitation
