Xavier Dolan, Canadian director, has been named as President of 77th Cannes’ Un Certain Regard jury.

Canadian director Xavier Nolan will preside over the Un Certain Regard Jury at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival. This is the most important section after Competition at the Festival.

Dolan has been a Cannes regular. He was part of the main Competition jury, chaired by the Coen Brothers at the 68th Cannes Film Festival. His Tom at the Farm and Mommy were his first to feature in the Festival’s Competition.Mommy garnered the Jury Prize in 2014. He then made It’s Only the End of the World,which won the Cannes Grand Pix. The Death and Life of John F. Donovan and Matthias & Maxime followed. The last played in the 2019 Cannes Competition.

The helmer wrote, directed, produced and starred in his first feature “I Killed My Mother” when he was 19. His second work Heartbeats was part of the Un Certain Regard when he was 21. A couple of years later, his Laurence Anyways was also in the same section. It won its star Suzanne Clement the Best Actress Award.

He played a few notable roles for other moviemakers, including Xavier Giannoli’s Lost Illusions, which earned him a César Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. In 2022, Dolan directed his first TV series, The Night Logan Woke Up.

Director Greta Gerwig – whose Barbie has been making waves now — will preside over the main Competition Jury at Cannes. The official selections will be announced on April 11, and the Festival will run from May 14 to 25.
