Cash seizures in Noida cross Rs 1 crore-mark since poll code implementation | Noida News – Times of India

NOIDA: The seizure of unaccounted-for cash in Noida and Greater Noida has exceeded Rs 1 crore since the initiation of the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections in the Gautam Buddh Nagar constituency.
The officials stated on Wednesday that ‘Police, static surveillance teams, and flying squads confiscated over Rs 20 lakh in three distinct cases within the constituency on Tuesday.
A local election official informed PTI that Up to this point, approximately 30 incidents have surfaced where unaccounted-for cash was discovered in the possession of individuals in amounts exceeding the permissible limit, with no immediate explanation provided. The cumulative seized sum currently amounts to Rs 1,08,81,350 (Rs 1.08 crore).
The official added, “Out of the confiscated sum, Rs 31,44,700 (Rs 31.44 lakh) have been returned following the necessary procedures, as the legitimate owners furnished satisfactory explanations within the designated timeframe.”
As per the official, The highest amount of cash confiscated in a single occurrence in Gautam Buddh Nagar thus far is Rs 11,58,400 (Rs 11.58 lakh).
The official added that, the authorities are approaching the explanations provided by individuals from whom the cash is confiscated with empathy, aiming to avoid disrupting their daily or urgent financial needs.
In the second phase of the elections, Gautam Buddh Nagar is scheduled to go to the polls on April 26.
