Tirupur: Tirupur Exporters Union (Tea) has said that the garment units in the textile city were abiding by all labor laws, and guest workers were well taken care of.
President of Chai KM Subramanian The member units strictly abide by the laws of the country, especially with regard to the welfare of workers, it said in a statement on Tuesday. Responding to allegations of misbehavior with some workers by some units, he said that garment units are always proactive in taking steps to improve the condition of workers.
Recalling the steps taken by Tiruppur export units for the safety of their employees during the Covid lockdown, subramaniam Said guest workers are provided good care in the units. The units arranged air, train and bus tickets as well as vans for them to reach their destinations safely. “The bureaucrats and chief minister’s offices of states like Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, UP have acknowledged the efforts of Tirupur export units in protecting the workers of their states in the hour of crisis,” he said.
Responding to the allegations leveled against a garment unit – SCM Garments, Subramanian said that the TEA has found the allegations to be untrue. “Women workers from Jharkhand perceived the period taken to process their leave as purposeful delay and complained to their parents, which was twisted to say that their salaries had also been withheld. This is untrue,” he said.
