Chandigarh: 11272 schools in Punjab do not have internet facility, 379 schools do not have toilets for girl students

In the UDICE Plus (Unified District Information System for Education Plus) survey of the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India, while the condition of schools in Punjab is better in many respects, there is a need for further improvement in terms of facilities.

The latest survey conducted by the ministry has revealed that out of total 27701 schools in Punjab, 11272 schools do not have internet facility. Government, private and other schools were included in the survey conducted for 2021-22. During this, it was revealed that students are using internet facility in total 16429 schools in the state. Apart from this, in terms of cleanliness and public convenience, there are 379 such schools where toilets for girl students are not available.

As per the results of the survey, toilets for girl students are functional in 27322 schools in the state while toilets for boys are functional in 26819 schools. Similarly, drinking water facility is being provided in 27699 schools. Only two schools were found not having drinking water facilities. Whereas 27690 schools have hand wash facilities for the students. Schools are very backward in rain water harvesting area.

The survey conducted in total 27701 schools of the state has revealed that only 4571 schools are doing rain water harvesting. In the current academic session, medical camps were organized in 16393 schools for the health care of the students. Apart from this, library facility is available in 2,7577 schools, while digital library facility is being provided in 1763 schools. 27020 schools have their own playground. At the same time, 23994 schools also have their own kitchen garden. Apart from this, solar panels are also being used in 2489 schools.
