Chennai: Higher Education Minister K Ponmudyo announced on Monday that Anna University And its 16 constituent colleges will reserve two percent seats for vocational group students from the 2022-23 academic session.

Earlier students used to get 100 per cent seats in government engineering colleges and four per cent in government aided and affiliated colleges. However, Anna University’s four campuses and 16 constituent colleges were admitted to students studying in the academic stream alone.
“From 2022-23 onwards, we have decided to reserve two per cent seats for vocational group students in all colleges including Anna University campuses, its constituent colleges and affiliated colleges, government colleges,” Ponmudi said.
About two thousand vocational group students are expected to appear under the two percent quota.
Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) committee has received 91,834 applications in the last eight days. “We expect more engineering admissions than last year,” the minister said.
He further said that arts and science colleges will reopen for second, third year students on July 18 after semester exams.
“The monthly financial assistance for girl students studying in government schools will be started in July. Career guidance program for class XII students will be conducted from June 29 to July 2,” he said.
Higher education The department also plans to fill the vacant seats in Anna University through Lateral Entry Admission. Diploma holders will get to study for the first time in four campuses of Anna University including College of Engineering, Guindy and Madras Institute of Technology.
