Chennai Jal Board warns sewer lorry owners against operating without license

The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) has warned of stern action against owners of sewage lorries operating without licenses in the city.

The Jal Board has listed 22 disposal points across the city where sewage collected through lorries in unsuitable areas can be disposed of.

The Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department has recently issued “Septage Management Regulations and Operational Guidelines” to prevent the discharge of raw sewage into water bodies and waterways.

These include sewage treatment plants and various sewage pumping stations across the city, said a press release. Madhavaram, Kilpauk, Indira Nagar, Adyar, Nesapakkam, Perungudi and Sholinganallur include some of the designated sewage pumping stations.

Sewer lorry owners can obtain application forms from CMWSSB field offices and apply for a license to clear sewage from areas that are not yet covered by underground sewer networks.
