CHENNAI: Actor Pratap Pothen with unparalleled dialogue-delivery skills and charming looks was found dead at his Kilpauk flat here on Friday morning. At the age of 70, Pothen made his film debut in Aavam (Malayalam) in 1978 after completing economics from Madras Christian College and completing a stint with theater groups in Chennai.
He left an indelible mark on the Tamil film industry with films like Azhiyada Kolangal, Mudupani, Varumayin Niram Sivappu and Nenjathai Kilathe. He acted in over 100 films in at least four languages, including Tamil and Malayalam. Pothen won a National Award in 1985 for his directorial debut Meendam Oru Kadhal Kadhai. He later directed films like Vetri Vijha, Jeeva and Sevalaperi Paandi which were box-office hits. He has also created countless jingles for corporates.
As the news of his death spread, many celebrities including Kamal Haasan, Mani Ratnam, PC Sriram and Santhana Bharati visited his home and offered condolences.
