Ludhiana: The bleak grey of winter has given way to a burst of colour in the city. Markets are full of bright Holi colours and water guns ahead of the festival on Monday. Residents are stocking up on colours, decorations, sweets and other delicacies for the celebrations.
This time, Holi falls in the session-end vacations. Now that final exams are over, the excitement among children is palpable.Temples in the city have been beautifully decorated with flowers. Most temples plan to celebrate with flowers instead of colours.
City markets are bustling with shoppers, children in tow, buying water guns having cartoon characters like Doremon, Pokémon and fish and umbrella designs. Shopkeepers said that this time, residents have bought herbal and natural colours to protect their skin from damage.
Holi celebrations have been planned on a large scale at Govind Godham, Iskon Janpath Estate, Shree Sankat Mochan Hanuman temple etc. Groups have been invited to sing ng bhajans all day and special prasad will be offered to Lord Krishna. Authorities in temples have also arranged security guards to ensure security of visitors.
Haibowal resident Harneet Kaur said, “Holi is my favourite festival because there is liberty to put colour on anybody and winter season too comes to an end. So I have asked my father to bring me a designer water gun.”
Civil lines resident Yash Goel said, “One of my friends has organised a Holi bash at his farm house on Hambran Road. A group of 15 families will gather there. It will be a great fun as children are free from exams.” However, residents are also mindful of sudden changes in weather. Since the mornings and evenings are relatively cold and afternoons are warm, they plan to use dry colours for the celebrations.
