Bhubaneswar: Led by Naveen BJD The opposition is likely to wait and see the name of its vice-presidential candidate before deciding whether to support or oppose NDAlike Jagdeep Dhankar for the post.
Contrary to the case of Draupadi Murmu as NDA’s presidential candidate, for which the Odisha Chief Minister supported her even before she was told and actively mobilized others to do the same, regional satrap Dhankhar came to an early conclusion. Can’t reach
“The Chief Minister will take the final decision on the matter. However, this is unlikely before the presidential election on Monday,” said a BJD leader.
In 2017, the BJD had taken different routes for the presidential and vice-presidential elections. While the regional party supported the NDA’s Ram Nath Kovind as President, it opposed the naming of Venkaiah Naidu for the post of VP. Instead, the Naveen-led party backed the then opposition candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi, who had excellent relations with the chief minister.
A party insider said, “Since the BJD has claimed a policy of staying at an equal distance from both the BJP and the Congress, it will wait for the opposition candidate and take a decision after comparing the candidates.”
