CMWSSB has taken up the work of cleaning sewers in all 15 areas of Greater Chennai Corporation as part of the monsoon preparedness work.

The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) on Thursday started cleaning sewers ahead of the northeast monsoon as part of its maintenance work in 15 areas of the Greater Chennai Corporation.

About 595 million liters of sewage is collected daily through a pipeline network running for 4,093 km across 302 sewage pumping stations in the city. This work will be done by 30th July.

Work will be done on 1,460 roads in different zones. Out of 15 zones, Teynampet has 162 number of roads between the zones. The water agency will deploy 500 sewer machines, including distilling machines, jet rodding machines and super sucker machines, to clean sewer pipelines.

Residents can approach the respective area offices or depot offices to resolve their complaints of sewage overflow or block in their streets, a press release said.
