The Coimbatore Corporation will make a presentation on three themes – environmental rejuvenation of water bodies, vibrant public spaces and energy efficiency. corporation commissioner M Pratap Will give a presentation.
The commissioner told TOI that model roads like RS Puram DB Road and Race Course were developed under the public space theme. Large numbers of people use both the facilities on any given day. Various programs are also being organized after the roads were blocked on Sunday so that people can claim space to pursue activities of their choice.
Under the environmental rejuvenation of water bodies category, seven lakes — Periyakulam, Valankulam, Krishnampathy, Selvampathy, Kumarasamy, Kurichi, Selvachinthamani — developed by the civic body will be presented. Projects done on lakes not only help in conserving them, but also help in maintaining their cleanliness. Apart from this, they also provide the required space to the public to spend time with their near and dear ones.
Projects such as conversion of streetlights to smart LED bulbs to reduce power consumption and installation of two solar power generation units at Ukkadam and Kavundampalayam will be presented. Along with this, solar projects of 5 MW capacity have been installed. “They have reduced the power consumption to an extent,” he said.
