College student attacks bus conductor with cleaver in UP, boasts punishment for ‘abusing a Muslim’ | Allahabad News – Times of India

PRAYAGRAJ(UP): A student of engineering allegedly assaulted a bus conductor by slashing his neck with a cleaver, later boasting in a video that this was his retribution for “abusing a Muslim,” as reported by the police on Sunday.
The incident occurred on Friday when Lareb Hashmi attacked bus conductor Harikesh, causing serious injuries that required hospitalization.
Hashmi was apprehended the same day in Chandi village after a gunfire encounter with the police, resulting in a leg injury, according to an official statement.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Ajit Singh Chauhan stated, “Police have obtained custody remand of the accused for further questioning.”
The incident gained attention when a video filmed by Hashmi went viral on social media. In the video, Hashmi claimed that the bus conductor had verbally abused him, justifying his attack. Hashmi also expressed religious sentiments in the video, declaring, “Nobody should think that the government is of Modi and Yogi. Only Mustafa rules our hearts. Allah hu Akbar, Allah hu Akbar.”
During questioning at the hospital, Hashmi informed the police about the verbal altercation with the bus conductor that led to the attack. After his arrest, Hashmi guided the police to a location where he had hidden the cleaver, and a recovered pistol was also found.
The police stated that the accused fired at them first, and in retaliation, he was shot in the leg. A case under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC has been registered against Hashmi based on the complaint filed by Harikesh’s father, Ram Shiromani Vishwakarma.
Harikesh, the bus conductor, is undergoing treatment at SRN Hospital and is reported to be out of danger, according to Chauhan.
