Commissioner Of Railway Safety Inspects Kudachi-ugarkhurd Double Line Project | Hubballi News – Times of India

Hubballi: Anant Madhukar Chowdhary, the commissioner of railway safety conducted a statutory inspection of doubling of railway track on Kudachi-Ugarkhurd section (6.695 km) on Tuesday.
The doubling of Kudachi–Ugarkhurd section is part of Londa-Miraj doubling project sanctioned in 2015-2016. The project is 100% funded by ministry of railways. The Londa-Ghataprabha stretch was dedicated by the Prime Minister in March 2023. Doubling of railway track enhances the capacity as well as safety. Not only can a greater number of trains be operated, but the direction of traffic is fixed (upline and downline) and express/passenger trains need not wait for crossing of other passenger or goods trains.
The newly doubled section between Kudachi and Ugarkhurd consists of one major bridge on Krishna River with 14 spans of 45.7m open web through girders, one yard remodelling (Kudachi) with one new loop line and passenger platform of 570m length and one road overbridge of 60m bow string girder. A speed trial at a peak speed of 119 km/h on dow line and 89 kmph on upline was conducted on Kudachi-Ugarkhurd section. The Commissioner of Railway Safety has authorized to open the section at 90 km/h. With doubling of Kudachi–Ugarkhurd section, South Western Railway (SWR) has till now commissioned 25.1km track doubling in the year 2023 -24.
