Hubli: The elections for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) are now in focus. The current mayor’s term ends on May 27.
HDMC officials have written a letter to the regional commissioner seeking information about the possible date for the elections to the posts of mayor and deputy mayor.

“The date for the mayoral election will be announced after Shettar becomes a minister,” sources said. He said instructions have been sent to the officials concerned not to announce the dates for the mayoral elections until Shettar is inducted into the cabinet.
Congress MLA from Hubli-Dharwad East Prasad Abbaiah said that this time, the party will definitely try to capture power in HDMC.
“Soon we will hold a meeting with the party president, leaders in HDMC, senior corporators and other leaders,” he added.
Former minister and MLA Vinay Kulkarni said efforts are being made to ensure that the civic body has enough numbers in support of the Congress candidate for the mayoral election.
