Three MLC seats have fallen vacant due to the resignation of Baburao Chinchansur, R Shankar and Laxman Savadi who contested the assembly elections.

The ruling Congress in Karnataka on Monday fielded Tippanappa Kamaknoor along with former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, Minister of State and Congress National Secretary NS Boseraju for the MLC elections to be held in the state on June 30.

Three MLC seats have fallen vacant due to the resignation of Baburao Chinchansur, R Shankar and Laxman Savadi who contested the assembly elections.

While Savadi won the election, Chinchansur and Shankar were defeated. Three new MLCs will be elected to the MLAs of Karnataka.

Shettar led the BJP government as Chief Minister for 10 months from 12 July 2012 to May 2013. He also served as the Leader of the Opposition and Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.

Last month, Shettar had joined the Congress after being denied a ticket by the BJP ahead of the assembly elections.

He contested assembly elections from Hubli-Dharwad Central constituency on Congress ticket, but was unsuccessful.
