The Congress on Sunday fielded Kanhaiya Kumar from the North East Delhi constituency against Bharatiya Janata Party’s Manoj Tiwari. The Grand Old Party, in it’s fresh list, announced the Lok Sabha candidates for ten constituencies, including three from Delhi.

Kumar will be contesting the polls for the second time, after he fought as a Communist Party of India candidate from Bihar’s Begusarai in 2019. Back then, he had lost to Union minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Giriraj Singh. A former JNUSU president, Kumar joined the Grand Old Party in 2021 and was inducted into the Congress Working Committee in 2023.

On the other hand, Tiwari who also hails from Bihar, is a two-time representative from this constituency and had defeated former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The party also announced the candidature for two other seats from the national capital, that includes Chandni Chowk and North West Delhi. J.P Agarwal and Udit Raj have been fielded from these two constituencies, respectively.

Veteran Congress leader, J.P Agarwal had won from his constituency back in 1984, 1989 and 1996, whereas Udit Raj won the North West Delhi seat in 2014 on a BJP ticket.

The party also announced its candidates for six seats in Punjab and fielded ex-Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi from Jalandhar.

The Congress also announced the candidature for several other seats in Punjab. From Amritsar, the party fielded Gurjeet Singh Aujla and from Fatehgarh Sahib they fielded Amar Singh. Among the other seats, Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu will contest from Bathinda, Sukhpal Singh Khaira from Sangrur and Dharamvir Gandhi from Patiala.

The Grand Old Party also announced Ujjwal Rewati Raman Singh as it’s candidate from Uttar Pradesh’s Allahabad.

As per the poll schedule, elections in Delhi will be held on May 25 and the counting of votes will take place on June 4.
