- Karnataka Minister Umesh Katti’s statement: 50 states in India after 2024 elections

Karnataka’s Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Umesh Katti has recently made a controversial statement. He said that after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the number of states in the country will increase to 50 and Karnataka will be bifurcated, with North Karnataka joining the new states.
He said this in Belagavi on Thursday, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that Modi has decided to create 50 states in the country after the 2024 elections. I know he is considering it. However, Katti’s statement was rejected by Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai. He said that the government is not planning to bring any such proposal.
Population burden is increasing
Katti had said in the statement that the idea of dividing the state was good as the burden of population has increased in the last few years. Supporting the idea of formation of states, Katti said two states should be formed from Karnataka, four from Uttar Pradesh, three from Maharashtra and so on.
The population of Bangalore city is also increasing rapidly. Time has come when IT companies should think of moving out of Bangalore. He has urged the people to join hands for the demand of North Karnataka state.
CM Bommai rejected
CM Bommai said that there is no proposal or view of the government on this issue. He said that Katti has given such statements in the past as well. He should answer this question himself.
In 2019 too, have demanded for partition
Even before this, Katti has demanded separate statehood for North Karnataka to Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa in 2019. He had alleged that Bengaluru has become a centralized place only for the people of South Karnataka, while the people of North Karnataka are suffering because of it. That’s why we need a separate state and that is our agenda.
