Somaiya moved the court claiming that Raut made baseless and defamatory allegations that she and her husband were involved in a Rs 100-crore scam related to the construction and maintenance of public toilets in Mira Bhayandar area.

A court here on Friday issued a non-bailable warrant against Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut for not attending the proceedings in a defamation complaint filed against him by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya’s wife Medha Somaiya.

The warrant was issued by Sewri Metropolitan Magistrate who recorded the statement of the complainant and adjourned the hearing till January 24.

Medha Somaiya’s counsel said Raut did not appear despite the court’s order.

Somaiya moved the court claiming that Raut made baseless and defamatory allegations that she and her husband were involved in a Rs 100-crore scam related to the construction and maintenance of public toilets in Mira Bhayander area near Mumbai.

They sought registration of a case under Indian Penal Code section 499 (criminal defamation) against Raut, who belongs to the Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena.
