Covid did not increase school dropout rate: Report Mysuru News – Times of India

Mysuru: Despite concerns about rising school dropout rates due to closure of schools, irregular online classes and loss of livelihood of low-income families, it has been found that the numbers remain the same as in the academic year 2019-20.
according to a report by District Information System for Education (DISE+), Total Dropout Rate Karnataka In the year 2020-21, it was 16.7% for classes 1 to 10. In the last academic year it was 16.8%.
In the year 2020-21, 18.4% of boys dropped out of secondary school (classes 9 and 10). Last year the number was 19.4%. However, during this period, the dropout rate of girls studying in these two classes increased from 14.1% to 14.9%. Interestingly, at all levels – primary, upper primary and secondary – more boys have dropped out than girls.
The report also pointed out that only 6% of government schools had internet access in the first year of COVID-19, which impacted digital education interventions for students. However, in this period, 37.4% of government-aided private schools and 67.18% of private unaided schools had internet access.
The report also found that 87.2% of government schools in the neighboring state of Kerala had internet access this year.
Meanwhile, activists say the resumption of full classes this year may paint a clearer picture in this year’s report itself. “There was a lot of confusion during the pandemic. At the grassroots level, we are facing several challenges with respect to drop outs this year,” said Nagasimha G Raothe director, Child Rights Trust,
