Vadodara: The city on Saturday reported a slow progress on Covid-19 vaccination, especially booster doses, as there was a shortage of vaccine doses. Vadodara Municipal Corporation ,vmc) dose not yet received covishieldThe vaccine that most people got for their first and second doses.
People who have not taken the booster dose started inquiring about the vaccine and even visited vaccination centers to get the third dose. However, the free vaccination centers at VMC health facilities did not have Covishield jabs.
VMC officials were hopeful that the doses of Covishield would be available by the end of this week. However, this did not happen and now Covaxin is available only with VMC.
Sources said that VMC was giving Covaxin doses from the stock it had. An official said that only this vaccine is being used in small numbers.
Sources said the coverage of the booster dose was low so far as there were very few takers. He said, ‘Now when people want to take the dose, Covishield is not available.’
VMC Medical Officer (Health) Dr Devesh Patel said the civic body had around 2,000 doses of Covaxin which were being utilised. He said that the dose of Covishield will now be available next week. Patel, however, said that some private hospitals had Covishield doses and were giving them to eligible persons.
