Bhubaneswar: The commissionerate police under its on-going ‘Safe City’ drive on Friday registered 78 cases of open drinking and imposed a fine of Rs 39,000 on the violators. It has also imposed a fine of Rs 2,300 in 21 incidents of smoking in public places, the police said on Saturday. tnn

Field fires have been observed at more than 10,200 sites. Tarn Taran and Amritsar have the highest penalties imposed, with Rs 21.5 lakh and Rs 21.2 lakh respectively.
Teen convicted and fined for ganja consumption in public in Thane
An 18-year-old boy in Thane has been found guilty of consuming ganja in public and has been fined Rs 3,000 by the magistrate court. The decision was based on violations of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The accused was caught in the act on October 15, 2023, and admitted to the crime during the court hearing. The magistrate emphasized the seriousness of consuming narcotics and ordered a fine, with a default penalty of five days in police custody. The seized ganja is to be disposed of by law enforcement.
