Criminal shot dead by gang of seven men in Pune | Pune News – Times of India

PUNE: A criminal listed in the records of the Pimpri Chinchwad police was shot dead by a gang of seven men at an eatery near Indapur along the Pune-Solapur highway on Saturday night.
The assailants also hacked the victim, Avinash Dhanve (30) of Wadmukhwadi near Alandi, with sharp weapons before fleeing the scene.
The incident caused panic among the other customers at the eatery.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Sudrashan Rathod of the Pune Rural Police told TOI, “The police have identified the suspects and deployed five teams to arrest them.”
Rathod stated that preliminary investigations suggested that the murder was the result of an old rivalry between two gangs in the Wadmukhwadi area.
The officer mentioned that the victim had over five cases, including murder and other crimes. He was also booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA). “The assailants had been monitoring him for some time. Around 8 pm, when Dhanve and three others stopped at the eatery near Indapur, the suspects attacked him with firearms and sharp weapons. They shot him at close range while he was sitting at a table in the eatery,” Rathod explained.
Rathod further mentioned that the victim sustained a gunshot wound to his head. The suspects subsequently hacked him with sharp weapons and fled in a car waiting outside the eatery.
