When Bharda searched the number of the hospital in the search engine, a mobile number was found. He dialed the given number.
When he called, a person picked up the phone and introduced himself as the receptionist of the hospital. When Bharda wanted to book an appointment for her nephew, the man asked her to pay Rs 5 online to book an appointment and sent her a link to fill in the patient’s details.
Within minutes, Bharda received a link from a mobile where she had to fill in the patient’s details and pay Rs 5 as a fee for the appointment. He filled the link as instructed and made the payment of Rs.5 using the UPI ID. The next day, Bharda received a text message from her bank informing her that Rs 99,000 had been debited from her account. He immediately got his account blocked through mobile banking and contacted the branch where he was told to file a cyber fraud complaint.
“We have identified an account number of a private bank in which the money was transferred and was immediately withdrawn from the ATM. Investigation is on.” said a police officer.
