Amritsar’s grain market was flooded following rains in northern India, soaking lakhs of metric tonnes of grain there.

The rainy season may continue for a few more days. The Indian Meteorological Department issued a warning on Friday that cyclonic storm Mocha will become active from the Bay of Bengal between May 7 and 9. Due to this, not only will it rain in the eastern part of the country, but the weather may remain bad for the next 4 days in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand and East Uttar Pradesh. In such a situation, the Meteorological Department has advised fishermen to stay away from the sea for the next 4 days.

Not only this, it will also rain in the southern states of the country and the hilly states of the north. There is a possibility of unseasonal snowfall in the hills of Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan will also not be spared from the change in weather. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of hailstorm in these three states. Heavy rain alert has been issued in Kerala, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), India has received 28% excess rainfall in the pre-monsoon season so far. While central India has received 268% more rainfall than normal. On the other hand, there have been no reports of heatwave anywhere in the country after April 21.

Fruit and vegetable crops affected in 18 states
Fruit and vegetable crops have been affected in 18 states of the country due to unseasonal rains that have been continuing for 15 days. Major damage has been done to onion crops in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Potato in Uttar Pradesh and crops of green vegetables in most of the states including Punjab, Delhi have suffered more damage.
