Death toll in Balasore train accident rises to 291 after one more victim dies – Times of India

Bhubaneswar: Death toll balasore train accident It rose to 291 after a passenger from Bihar died during treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Sahil Mansoor, 32, a resident of Roshanpur in Bhagalpur district of Bihar.
He was in the trauma ICU of the same hospital.
“He was admitted to our hospital in a very critical condition. He had kidney problem. We were doing his dialysis. He passed away at 12.15 pm on Saturday,” said Avinash Raut, Administrative Officer, SCB MCH.
More than 40 injured passengers were undergoing treatment at SCB MCH. Of the total injured, 13 are in ICU. One of them was very critical. Official sources said several admitted persons also had injuries to the head, spine (at different levels), coccyx, malleus fractures and broken limbs.
On Friday, an injured person Prakash Ram (18), a resident of Bihar’s Gopalganj, died of injuries to his left leg. He had septicemia due to the infection. On Tuesday, another injured person from Bihar died in the same hospital.
Around 1,200 passengers were injured in a triple-train accident on the evening of 2 June, in which the superfast Coromandel Express rammed into a stationary goods train and its two mangled coaches collided with the two rear coaches of the Bengaluru-Howrah Express.
Quick action by the local people, prompt response by the local administration and prompt planning by the State Government and timely intervention of the Railways helped in saving many lives. Hundreds of injured received first aid before being shifted to various hospitals.
Out of 291 deaths, the dead bodies of 81 people killed in the train accident have not been identified yet. AIIMS Bhubaneswar has preserved all these bodies in its mortuary and in containers brought from Paradip port.
Many relatives were confused by the mutilated and decomposed bodies and provided DNA samples to identify their next of kin. More than 78 DNA samples of family members have been taken. These samples have been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in New Delhi. The reports of some DNA samples will come very soon.
