Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and MP Sanjay Singh will appear in Ahmedabad’s Metropolitan Court today in a case related to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s degree. Both did not reach the court in the hearing held on June 7 last month. The lawyer had applied for exemption from appearance, which was accepted by the court and directed both of them to appear in the court on July 13.

Significantly, the Ahmedabad-based Gujarat University has filed a defamation case against both the leaders. In this case related to PM Modi’s degree, Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh are accused of tarnishing the image of the university.

Questioned the reputation of the institution: University
In the petition filed by Gujarat University, it has been said that Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh are constantly questioning the reputation of the institution. They know that PM’s degree has already been uploaded on the website. Despite this, both the leaders are saying that the university is hiding the truth by not showing the degree, whereas there is nothing like that.

Did not reach the court despite being issued summons
In the hearing held on April 15, the court had ordered both the AAP leaders to appear on May 23. The judge had said that prima facie there appears to be a case against them under section 500 (defamation) of the IPC. Both the leaders were to appear in the court on May 23, but they did not. AAP claimed that no summons had been received from the court. After this, the court issued summons again and asked to appear on June 7.
