Delhi: Two air passengers have been arrested for allegedly smuggling 1,849 grams of gold worth over Rs 94 lakh at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport. The accused have been identified as Amit Bhandari and Rohit Chugani. Both the residents of Rajasthan were arrested on the basis of intelligence reports.

“They reached IGI from Dubai on November 25. Both the passengers were intercepted after crossing the Green Channel. A detailed examination of their baggage was done through X-ray in which suspicious images were seen. When the baggage was opened, the Customs Joint Commissioner of Customs IGI Nisha Gupta said, the officials recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 94,80,667.

The gold has been seized under section 110 of the Customs Act. Both the passengers were arrested for violation of section 104 of the Customs Act. Both the accused were produced before a competent authority who sent them to judicial custody for 14 days.
