Delhi lawyer goes for trek, body found near river in Himachal’s Kullu | Delhi News – Times of India

Kullu: A search and rescue team on Tuesday retrieved the body of Shivam Roy, 30, who had fallen into Parvati river on November 4 while returning from Mantalai lake in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh.
The body of Roy, a Delhi-based lawyer, was found on the river bank about 2km downstream from Potraghat, the spot where he had slipped. The rescue team is expected to bring the body back to Manikaran by Wednesday.
“The search and rescue team found the body in the early hours of Tuesday. The team is bringing it back, but will take a day to reach Kheerganga and then Barshaini village,” said Chhape Ram Negi, a veteran rescue expert from the Parvati valley, who was monitoring the search operation.
A district administration official said the body would be handed over to Roy’s family after postmortem examination. His father and brother have been camping in the Parvati valley since Sunday.
Roy had fallen into Parvati river at Potraghat, around a day’s trek from Kheerganga, while trying to cross a narrow and dangerous stretch of the trek. He was trekking with a guide and porter at the time of the accident.
Mantalai lake, which is the source of Parvati river, is located at an altitude of around 4,200 metre. The trek from Barshaini village to Mantalai lake via Kheerganga is considered one of the toughest and also dangerous ones in Himachal Pradesh. Mountaineering experts advise against going on this trek in the winters as sudden change of weather conditions can make it even more riskier.
