Delhi Police seized so many mobile phones from jails in last 2.5 months

Official data shows that over 340 mobile phones have been found in various jails of Delhi in the last two and a half months.

Director General (Prisons) Sanjay Baniwal told reporters that jail authorities have received 348 mobile phones in two and a half months.

“On Wednesday, jail officials raided jail number 3 and seized 18 Mobile phone and charger. In the last two months, the jail authorities have seized 348 mobile phones.

Baniwal said, “Jail superintendents have started raids after receiving intelligence inside the jails. The criminal world is now getting a strong message from these actions.

“We have set 23 targets for 2023. These targets include making prisons completely phone-free and setting up a problem solving system for inmates. Such jammers should be installed so that no one can use the phone inside the prison. Couldn’t.” DG said.

When asked about the fact that involvement of insiders helps inmates to get mobile phones inside jails, he said, “We accept the involvement of prison staff in such acts. He said that the President and the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi have directed that arrangements should be made inside the jails to provide skill development training to the prisoners so that they can get employment after leaving the jail.

The DG said that a total of 1,020 jail inmates are being given tourism and hospitality training under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM), which will be over in three months.

“We will give skill training to about 1,000 prisoners in stitching high-quality clothes under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana so that if they come out of jail and become entrepreneurs, they can start their own tailoring business through the Micro Units Development and Refinance Agency. Mudra) loan,” the DG (Prisons) said.
