Demand For Saffron Gulal, Modi Mask Goes Up | Allahabad News – Times of India

Prayagraj: As Lok Sabha elections are around the corner, it seems that the poll fever has left a mark on the festival of Holi. With markets abuzz with water guns and ‘gulaal’, the city is seeing an unprecedented demand and sale of saffron colour ahead of the festival.
As saffron is associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is hoping to retain both the parliamentary constituencies-Allahabad and Phulpur- in coming Lok Sabha polls, people are ready to smear the colour on each other during both festival of colours and democracy.
Interestingly, stockists and wholesale traders of abeer, gulal and colours claimed that there has been good demand for colours, especially saffron, this Holi festival. Mohd Qadir, prominent stockist of Holi colours and pichkaris told TOI that, “There has been demand for saffron gulal from the revellers. People are also preferring herbal gulal.”
He, however, added, “Demand for Viksit Bharat saffron cap and Modi mask has also gone up in UP markets.”
Traders from neighbouring districts including Bhadohi, Kaushambi, Sultanpur and Pratapgarh have too booked their orders for the saffron gulal and pichkari named on Modi and Yogi. However, demand for bulldozer pichkari has also gone up among kids.
Scores of colours, cap and other fancy articles shops have come up in city markets including Civil Lines, Chowk, Katra, Sulemsarai, Ghantaghar, Bahadurganj and adjoining areas ahead of the festival to be celebrated on March 25.
