Speaking to TOI on Sunday, the DM said, “Initially one month’s time was given, but after departments and companies asked for more time, it was extended for two months to ensure that all the hanging cables And the wires get covered under the ground. The PWD has been asked to facilitate underground cabling along the roads as well as make ducts along the roads to avoid frequent damage to the roads.
Under the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS), most of the roads in the old city area have been laid underground after the Prime Minister’s tenure. This improved the appearance of city streets as they were freed from the maze of overhead wires and heritage lights were installed on newly installed poles.

Taking cognizance of this, DM asked cable operators, electricity department, PWD, BSNL and other mobile service provider companies and VMC to ensure removal of these wires and cables. All concerned companies and departments were asked to complete the work on cost sharing basis. The DM asked the PWD to make ducts to ensure that all such wires and cables are underground.
The DM also asked the officials to complete this work on the roads leading to Kashi Vishwanath TempleDashashwamedh Ghat, Godaulia, Kal Bhairav, DDU Business Facilitation Center, Namo Ghat, other VIP movement roads and major tourist places on priority. The PWD was also asked to ensure construction of ducts on all roads that are being widened and reconstructed.
BSNL and electricity officials were also asked to shift IPDS and other junction boxes from the roads.
