NAGPUR: Accusing the BJP-led central and state governments of ignoring the genuine demands of the OBCs, former minister Anil Deshmukh on Wednesday called for a census of the community to know their actual population.
Talking to the media at his residence here, the senior NCP leader said that during a two-day meeting of his OBC cell, it was decided to revive the demand for a caste-based census from the Centre. “There are about 350 castes in the OBC community. We should know how many of them are Kunbi, Teli and Mali members so that it becomes easier to provide benefits including reservation to them,” said Deshmukh.
