Hundreds of devotees participated in the Maha Shivratri celebrations organized here on Saturday.
As the Maha Shivaratri celebrations were held at the Sri Aayiraththamman Temple Dasara ground (Erumaikida Maithanam) in Palayamkottai, devotees started pouring in since evening.
After inaugurating the Maha Shivaratri celebrations by PM Saravanan, Mayor of Tirunelveli Corporation, cultural programs, discourses, devotional songs, debates and performances by folk art troupes for 12 hours from 6 pm, in which District Collector KP Karthikeyan participated took.
A Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad was deployed at the main gate of the Sree Nellaiyappar Temple for security. Thousands of devotees participated in the famous in Kanyakumari Shivalaya OttamMarathon of devotees visiting 12 Shiva temples at Munsirai, Thikkurichi, Thirparappu, Thirunanthikkarai, Ponmanai, Panippagam, Kalkulam, Melankode, Thiruvidaikode, Thiruvithankode, Thirupanthikode and Thirunattalam.
