Devotees throng temples to celebrate Maha Shivaratri in Mysuru | Mysuru News – Times of India

Mysuru: With great fervour, the citizens have celebrated Maha Shivaratri in Mysuru and Chamajaranagar districts on Friday.
Devotees have conducted special pujas, observed fast and offered Bilva Patra (leaves of Bel tree), which is considered as favourite for Lord Shiva at the temples.
Special pujas were held at prominent Shiva temples of the city such as Sri Kameshwara Kameshwari Temple on Ramanuja Road, Male Mahadeshwara Swamy Temples at Siddhartha Nagar, Sunnadakeri, Kumbara Koppal, Paduvarahalli, Halladakeri and KT Street, Amrutheshwara Swamy Temple on Dewan’s Road, Chidambareshwara Temple on Dhanvantri Road, Sri Chandramouleshwara Temple at VV Mohalla and Shiva Temple at Srirampura.
Devotees stood in serpentine queue from early in the mornings for darshan at Sri Trineshwara Temple located in the premises of Mysuru Palace. The golden mask (Chinnada Kolaga) adorned the presiding deity, which is used only during Maha Shivaratri festival. It was gifted by the Mysuru maharaja Jayachamaraja Wadiyar which was placed in the Mysuru Palace Board.
Large number of devotees made a beeline at Mahabaleshwara Temple atop Chamundi Hills and Sacchidanandeshwara and Vishweshwara temples at Avadhoota Datta Peetham.
The other prominent Shiva temples Sri Vaidyanatheshwara, Sri Pathaleshwara, Sri Maruleshwara, Sri Arakeshwara, and Sri Mudukuthore Mallikarjuneshwara, Chamarajeshwara temple in Chamarajanagar in T Narasipura taluk witnessed heavy rush.
Srikanteshwara Temple in Nanjangud and Male Mahadeshwara Temple at MM Hills in Hanur taluk of Chamarajanagar district were flooded with devotees from Karnataka and neighbouring states.
A large number of devotees offered special prayers at Male Mahadeshwara Hills temple by walking barefoot from long distances. Special arrangements were made for pilgrims by muzrai department at both these temples to have early darshan.
KSRTC operated special buses from several the district headquarters to MM Hills and Nanjangud.
