Did you know Shah Rukh Khan’s hair in ‘Dunki’ was fake in underwater scenes? VFX breakdown video reveals | – Times of India

Red Chillies VFX showcased the intricate visual effects employed to enhance Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani‘s Dunki, ranging from expansive desert vistas to intricate details like wrinkles on a person’s feet.
The breakdown video provides a comprehensive overview of Dunki’s standout scenes, unveiling the extensive visual effects incorporated. Notably, the closing sequence featuring Taapsee Pannu reminiscing about her youth in her old village demanded intricate VFX to create a seamless, continuous camera movement.Additionally, computer-generated fire was utilized to intensify the moment when Vicky Kaushal‘s character immolates himself following a failed visa interview.

Following the central characters’ journey towards London, several environments they traverse are digitally rendered. While vehicles appear physically crafted, scenes featuring them were shot against blue screen backdrops. Shah Rukh, Taapsee, and co-stars weren’t physically present atop a train, on a boat, or in a truck. Instead, these scenes were captured in studio settings, with Red Chillies VFX integrating background elements.

The VFX breakdown video unveiled intriguing insights. Surprisingly, Shah Rukh wasn’t submerged underwater, not even in a studio setup, for the scene depicting the characters escaping gunfire. Consequently, CGI replaced his dry hair with a wet appearance. Likewise, the close-up shot featuring wrinkled feet wasn’t achieved by dipping them in water; VFX were employed to add the wrinkles.

Fans lauded the impressive VFX work in Dunki. “The water scene was such perfection, such great work,” one YouTube commenter remarked. Another praised the “most realistic CG fire” they had ever seen. Despite mixed reviews, Dunki became Shah Rukh’s third-highest-grossing film, earning over Rs 470 crore worldwide against a budget of Rs 120 crore. 2023 marked the peak of Shah Rukh’s career, with his films Pathaan and Jawan each grossing over Rs 1000 crore globally.
