Dinesh Gundu Rao asks police, DK administration to curb ethical policing through strict measures

Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada and Health and Family Welfare Dinesh Gundu Rao said here on Friday that he has directed the police department and district administration to take strict steps to curb incidents of moral policing in the district.

The minister, who held a meeting with police officers in the city on Friday, said he has directed the police to take strict action against those taking the law into their hands.

Mr. Rao said in a release that he also directed the police to curb hooliganism by taking strict measures.

Referring to drug trafficking and abuse, he said that it has come to his notice that some lower level police personnel are involved in drug trafficking. Top police officers have been instructed to identify such personnel and take action against them. A special campaign should be launched to curb drug abuse in collaboration with the heads of educational institutions. To curb this problem, cooperation has also been sought from the parents. Police, district administration and educational institutions should launch a joint campaign against smuggling and consumption.

The minister said that there is ample scope for development in Dakshina Kannada. Maintaining law and order in the district has emerged as a challenge. Fair legal steps should be taken to maintain harmony in the district. Necessary instructions were issued to the police and district administration on this. Besides, Mr Rao said, the police were instructed to follow the police manual and follow the Constitution.

In the meeting, Deputy Commissioner MP Mullai Muhillan, Police Commissioner Kuldeep Kumar R. Jain, Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police CB Rashyanth were present.
