Writer-director Alphonse Puthren has garnered a huge fan following among audiences in Tamil Nadu with his Malayalam film Premam. Alphonse is currently making great progress in his career. He is going to make his second film in Tamil cinema. The film is titled Gift and Puthren has collaborated with music maestro Ilaiyaraaja for it. Alphonse had tweeted about the gift on July 4, in which it was told that the shooting of this film is going on. As mentioned in the poster, Ilaiyaraaja has composed 7 songs and original soundtrack for Gift, produced by Rahul under the banner of Romeo Pictures.
A striking feature in the film’s poster is that its title is written in a fidget spinner and a cycle chain. Is this feature somehow related to the theme of this movie? The makers have not given any details about this. Alphonse Puthren wrote the film and managed its editing and color grading, which is mentioned in the poster. Actors Sandy, Kovai Sarala and Sahana Sarvesh are part of the cast of Gift.
Gift marks the return of Alphonse Puthren to Tamil cinema after the Malayalam Tamil bilingual, Neram. Released on 10 May 2013, Neram received critical acclaim and was a box office success.
Producer Rahul revealed more details about the same in an earlier interaction with Times of India. Rahul said, “It will be a romantic film. We are currently in the casting phase and will announce the cast and crew in 10-12 days. While Alphons will be making it in Tamil, he also plans to cast a pan-India cast so that the project can spread across industries. Rahul had also said that Alphonse would take the film on floors by the end of April. He has given information in a tweet that Sony Music has acquired the audio rights of Gift.
Alphonse’s last film as a director was the Malayalam film Gold, which was a box office disappointment. The film was released on December 1, 2022 at the box office. Gold is currently streaming on Amazon Prime, and stars Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara.
