‘divert Heavy Vehicles To Ease Congestion On G’bunder Rd’ | Thane News – Times of India

Thane: Commuters using Ghodbunder road have called for immediate solutions, including diversion of heavy vehicles like transport buses, to ease congestion between Majiwada and Kapurbawdi junctions.
The ongoing Metro works between Majiwada and Kapurbawdi junction has led to narrowing of lanes from four to two for Ghodbunder-bound traffic along the 200m stretch. This is causing massive congestion, regulars complain. Motorists complain of having to endure at least 20-30 minutes to cross the stretch and are now demanding diversions of transport buses. The stretch witnesses massive traffic snarls as vehicles from various parts of the city including those coming from Pokhran 2, Nashik highway, Uthalsar and from Nitin company, converge at this spot and disperse for other locations including Balkum, Bhiwandi and Gujarat, Owale, Borivli, among others. “It has become a routine affair that vehicles get stuck in snarls at the junction for several minutes. The influx of transport buses and inter-city mini trucks lead to wastage of time and fuel,” complained Sameera D, a resident of Borivli who uses the stretch frequently.
Sunil Dodeja, a resident of Majiwada suggested that in the evening peak hours, all transport buses going towards Ghodbunder road could be diverted via flyover from Viviana Mall to Cine Wonder mall and those taking the road underneath could be diverted via Pokhran-2 – Gladys Alvares Marg – Mulla Baug to Ghodbunder Road to ease pressure. When contacted, Dr Vinay Rathod, deputy police commissioner, traffic- Thane said they have surveyed the stretch and are working on reducing traffic. “We are holding meetings with TMT to check if a few of their buses could be diverted from the junction,” he said.
