Thane/Palghar:

A doctor couple from Virar in Maharashtra’s Palghar district have donated the organs of their 30-year-old son who died in a motorcycle accident, an Indian Medical Association official said on Saturday.

IMA Maharashtra Secretary Dr. Santosh Kadam said that at least 11 people would be benefited from the donated organs.

The deceased has been identified as Saket Dandavate, who died in an accident near Bengaluru on Friday.

His father, Dr Vineet Dandwate, Virar President of IMA, decided to donate his son’s organs.

Saket got married only five months back. His wife Apoorva had also given consent for organ donation, the release said.

Dr Kadam, head of the organ donation committee at Maharashtra IMA, said, “Saket’s parents Dr Vineet and Dr Sumedha have decided to donate their deceased son’s organs.”

He said that while there is good awareness about blood donation in the country, there is a need for more awareness about organ donation.
