NEW DELHI: Donald Trump has won the Republican presidential primary in Ohio, days after winning the primary for the third consecutive time.
In addition to Ohio’s contest, Trump is likely to comfortably pull off GOP primaries in Arizona, Florida, Illinois, and Kansas.
President Joe Biden also won the Ohio Democratic primary and is expected to do the same in all those states except Florida, where Democrats cancelled their primary and opted to award all 224 of their delegates to Biden.
Meanwhile, Trump has already exceeded the 1,215-delegate mark required to become the presumptive Republican nominee by emerging victorious in Georgia, Mississippi, and Washington state.
The former US President emerged victorious in the Michigan Republican primary, surpassing opponent Nikki Haley.
Trump consistently outperformed Haley in the initial primary states where both were listed: Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and later Michigan.
Additionally, Trump triumphed in the Nevada caucuses, and even in Nevada’s presidential primary, the choice for ‘none of these candidates’ outpaced Haley.
It comes amidst four different criminal investigations against Trump, with his first trial, centered on payments made to a porn actress, to begin on March 25 in New York City.
Trump and Biden are running on their records in office and casting the other as a threat to America. Trump, 77, portrays the 81-year-old Biden as mentally unfit.
Both rivals are focused on the upcoming general election, targeting competitive states for their campaigns rather than just primary states.
The president has described his Republican rival as a threat to democracy after his attempt to overturn the 2020 election results and his praise of foreign strongmen.
