Washington: Facebook and Instagram pages belonging to former US President Donald Trump have been restored by Meta Platforms Inc. Meta spokesman Andy Stone confirmed the information on Thursday. On January 6, 2021, Trump’s social media access was suspended for two years following the deadly Capitol Hill riots in the United States.

The reinstatement was expected after Nick Clegg, Facebook’s president of global affairs, said in January that the suspension would be lifted, according to an NBC report. Trump’s accounts on Facebook and Instagram were suspended by Meta following the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot. The ban was initially announced as an indefinite ban that covered the last two weeks of his presidency. The ban on Trump’s account was later formally extended for two years.

Till the time of writing this news, Trump has not shared any new post on his Facebook or Instagram account. His last Instagram post, dated January 6, 2021, promoted a “Save America” ​​march where he would encourage his supporters to march on the Capitol.

Sharing the post on Instagram, Trump wrote in the caption, “I will be speaking at the Save America Rally at the Eastern Ellipse tomorrow at 11am. Arrive early – Eastern door opens at 7am. Big crowd!”

Trump’s last post on Facebook before his suspension called for people to leave the capitol. In the post on Facebook, Trump said, “I am asking everyone in the US Capitol to remain peaceful.
