Google Pay now supports Aadhaar-based payments
UPI has become the preferred mode of payment for millions of people in India, but many cannot access it because they do not have a debit card. Well, not anymore.
Google Pay now introduces a new way for users in India to sign up and you don’t need a debit card to use the payment service. The platform now allows you to register for UPI payments using your Aadhaar number, which could be helpful for millions of people who still have debit cards for cash withdrawals and other services.
UPI has been the fastest growing mode of payment in India over the past few years and apps like Google Pay have surely played their part with many people making payments in just a few steps. So, how does Aadhaar-centric payments work on Google Pay and what do you need to use this feature? Google has listed the steps and we tell you how it actually works.
Google Pay Payment Via Aadhaar: How to Setup and Use
– Open the Google Pay app on your phone and click on Add Account to start using the service
– Select the bank that is registered with your mobile number and click on Next
Now click on Aadhaar mode to verify the number and your bank account
Now enter the first six digits of your Aadhaar which is linked with your bank account
– Create a 4 or 6 digit UPI PIN, which will be used to authorize your transactions
Bank will send an OTP to your registered mobile number
– Set 6 digit UPI PIN and confirm it once again
– Now your bank account is linked using Aadhaar number
Users who wish to onboard UPI through Aadhaar will need to ensure that (a) their phone numbers registered with UIDAI and the bank are the same, and (b) their bank account is linked with Aadhaar.

Google says that Aadhaar-based login will work if your phone number is registered with UIDAI and bank. Also your bank account is linked with Aadhaar number. Google claims that it does not store the Aadhaar number and is only there to facilitate payments through NPCI servers on Google Pay.
