The verbal tussle started after Saumitra Khan, an MP from the ruling BJP, raised the issue of payment of dearness allowance to West Bengal government employees during the Question Hour.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday asked members not to convert the lower house of Parliament into a “municipal corporation” as BJP and TMC MPs engaged in a face-off over an issue related to West Bengal government employees.

A verbal spat ensued after Saumitra Khan, an MP from the ruling BJP, raised the issue of payment of dearness allowance to West Bengal government employees during the Question Hour and asked Union Labor and Employment Minister Bhupendra Yadav if the Center could address. Case.

Asking Yadav, Khan said, “The employees of the West Bengal government are on hunger strike… They are not getting their dearness allowance.” Trinamool Congress (TMC) member Kalyan Banerjee immediately objected to Khan raising the issue and questioned its relevance in the Lok Sabha.

The BJP MP also wanted to know from the minister how many workers from West Bengal are registered on the Ishram portal, the national database of unorganized workers maintained by the Centre.

Responding to Khan’s question, Yadav said that over 2.57 crore workers from West Bengal are registered on the portal. However, the minister did not say anything on the issue of state government employees raised by him.

Yadav said, ‘I will reply on the remaining subject after taking cognizance of it.’

Taking objection to Khan’s question, Banerjee said, “We are sitting here, (but) that doesn’t mean they can speak whatever they want here.” Relevance is essential. He is talking about the payment of dearness allowance to state government employees and it has nothing to do with the question itself. Lok Sabha Speaker Birla will intervene.

“Don’t discuss among yourselves… don’t turn it into a municipal corporation,” Birla said, asking the members to stop arguing with each other.
