The Directorate of Vigilance (DoV) has issued show cause notices to seven officials of the Public Works Department (PWD) in connection with the renovation of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s official residential complex at 6, Flagstaff Road, Civil Lines.

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva has welcomed this development.

According to the DoV report commissioned by Lieutenant-Governor VK Saxena, a total of ₹52.71 crore was spent on the Chief Minister’s official residence.

The DoV was asked by the LG to look into the renovation project after it took note of media reports about work on the CM residence.

In a notice sent to chief engineers and other concerned officers, the DoV has sought clarification regarding “gross violation of General Financial Rules, CPWD manual and CVC guidelines”.

It added that the previous CM residence was demolished by the PWD without proper survey and the new building was constructed without an approved building plan.

It was also alleged that changes were made in the original plan on the instructions of the Chief Minister, resulting in deviation from the sanctioned amount.

According to the DoV notice, Mr Kejriwal got a much bigger complex than was permitted as per the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

Mr Sachdeva said the notices would “help bring out the truth”.

“On whose instructions did the PWD carry out the renovation without proper tendering and budgetary provisions? The day is not far when the Chief Minister himself will face an inquiry into his bungalow scam.

The AAP did not comment when asked for a comment.
