A contractual quality assurance engineer, Reddy was working on a classified advance naval systems program at the Defense Laboratory’s RCI campus in Balapur. His covert activity was busted by the Rachakonda Special Operations Team (SOT), which along with Balapur police raided his residence and took him into custody.
Secret information was received from intelligence agencies and Reddy was booked under the Official Secrets Act.
Engineer posted a Facebook status message about his new job with DRDL in March 2018. Two years later, he received a friend request. Natasha Rao introduced himself, who introduced himself as an employee of the UK Defense Journal. SOT Inspector Anji Reddy said, “Reddy gladly accepted the friend request. He also told the engineer that she was the daughter of an IAF officer and lived in Bengaluru. Thereafter, Natasha proposed marriage.” A Rachakonda police officer said Reddy also fell in love and on the woman’s request, they started sharing pictures and text on the development of missiles at DRDL.
The transfer of classified information continued till December 2021, when Reddy suspected that something was amiss after Natasha changed her name on her Facebook profile. Simran Chopra and stopped talking to him. Police found that Natasha had also asked for Reddy’s bank account details, but it is yet to be confirmed whether she transferred the money or not.
“We suspect that Natasha was an ISI operative,” said a Rachakonda police officer. Police seized two mobiles Sim Reddy, who is the son of an officer of the Naval Armament Depot, Visakhapatnam.
