‘Dress code’ for devotees at Mankameshwar temple | Allahabad News – Times of India

Prayagraj: Management of Mister Mankameshwar Temple has put in place a dress code for devotees who wish to enter the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.

“Devotees should be aware of the rich Indian culture and tradition and wear decent clothes while entering the temple and worshiping the deities. Men should wear kurta-dhoti while women should wear saree when they are engaged in performance Coronation and worship of god Shiva at the garbha griha of the temple,” chief priest and mahant Shridharanand Brahmachari told TOI.
He said that many times it has been seen that people come to the temple wearing shorts, jeans, skirts and other obscene clothes.
“It is appalling and indecent. Hence, we have put up a board at the temple gate, appealing them to wear modest clothes when coming to worship the God and Goddess.
The dress code-cum-guidelines states that those wearing “body-exposing, provocative, promiscuous, indecent clothes as well as half pants, Bermudas” are not welcome in the temple.
The temple management committee has also banned devotees from clicking photos and selfies inside the temple premises.
“When a male or female devotee enters the temple premises to perform the puja wearing traditional dress like dhoti-kurta or kurta/pajama or saree, their prayers become successful. We have decided to restrict the entry of devotees who do not follow the guidelines.”
Thousands of devotees visit the temple daily and this number increases during Mondays and the holy month of Shravan.
