Driver killed after KSRTC e-bus rammed into goods vehicle on Mysore Expressway | Bengaluru News – Times of India

An electric bus rammed into a goods vehicle on the 10-lane Bengaluru-Mysore Expressway near Ramanagara on Wednesday afternoon, killing a driver-cum-conductor of a KSRTC bus and injuring 22 passengers. The condition of four of the injured is said to be serious.
This came a day after senior police officers took stock of the situation on the busy highway in the wake of reports of frequent accidents.
The deceased is 51-year-old G Ramesh Kumar. The bus belonged to KSRTC Central Depot in Bengaluru and was coming from Madikeri.
The accident took place near Jayapura Junction at 4.45 pm. The goods vehicle driver, Raghavendra, was transporting 20 mm thick plywood sheets.
“The vehicle was moving on the extreme right lane and the KSRTC driver tried to overtake it from the left. The goods vehicle was carrying a large number of plywood sheets. One of the tires of the vehicle burst and it veered to the left. Suddenly, the bus hit the vehicle and plywood sheets entered the bus through the broken windshield and got stuck in the steering. The sheets hit the driver’s chest. Meanwhile, the bus crossed the median line, crossed the opposite lane and It entered an empty paddy field. It went for about 100 meters before stopping,” a passenger told the police.
On Tuesday, Additional Director General of Police (Traffic and Road Safety) Alok Kumar had traveled on the expressway and held talks with police officials to find a solution to the rising fatal accidents. He suggested implementing a rule to suspend the driving license of those driving at a speed of more than 100 kmph on the road. Nearly 100 people died and over 350 were injured in accidents on the 117-km-long expressway this year.
