Mangaluru: “The purpose of my filmDvamdva’ is to educate people on matters of gender identity, said the director Kling Johnson, whose film ‘Dvamdva’ recently premiered at Bengaluru International Film Festival. Interacting with the students and others after screening the film ‘Dvamdva’ under the auspices of the Gandhian Centre for Philosophical Arts and Sciences, Johnson said conventional societies have certain biases about gender identity.
With the advancement of knowledge about gender, our perspective needs to change, and hence societies need to be educated, he felt. ‘Dvamdva’ is a film based on the novel ‘Deepavirada Daariyalli’, written by Sushanth, which brings out the complexities of gender identity through the story of a young Yakshagana artiste, known for his woman’s role.
