The details of political donations through electoral bond from April 12, 2019 until April 12, 2019 to January 24, 2024 were made public by the Election Commission of India on March 14.

The fresh data in sealed cover doesn’t, however, include the names of the donors except a few parties like the DMK and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

The Commission on March 14, uploaded the data of the now-scrapped electoral bonds for making political donations on its website as per the orders of the Supreme Court (SC). In compliance with the SC order, the SBI handed over the electoral bonds data to the election body earlier this week.

Following a Supreme Court directive, the State Bank of India (SBI), which was the authorised seller of electoral bonds, shared the data with the poll panel on March 12 which was eventually uploaded by EC on its website on March 14.

At 1609 crore, Mamata Banerjee’s party was also second largest recipient of political donations via electoral bonds in the first data between April 2019 and January 2024 released on March 14. The donations had increased after the party swept the West Bengal Assembly elections in 2021.

West Bengal Assembly elections, which Trinamool Congress won, were held between March 27 and April 29, 2021.
